Art & Design at TE Vizja: More Than Just Paint on Paper

Art & Design at TE Vizja is more than just a painting course. These art classes Warsaw offer a creative studio experience and an imaginative journey all in one. Ideal for anyone looking for art classes Warsaw Poland, wanting to develop artistically within a general secondary program and gain access to fine arts subjects in high school — or simply for those who believe art objects and creative expression can be a path to self‑discovery.
This is a space where students not only learn techniques, but also make decisions, experiment, push boundaries, and discover themselves. They work with color and form—and also with failure, courage, and creative autonomy.
It sounds serious? It is—to an extent. But above all: inspiring!
What Are These Lessons About?
As part of the IGCSE (Warsaw Mokotow & Warsaw Center) and IB (International Baccalaureate) programs, students have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills under the guidance of Dominika Sergiej—an artist, educator, and mentor in color and composition. Over two years, this art course includes drawing and painting techniques (pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, acrylic), graphic arts (such as linocut), perspective, composition, and observational work.
In the first year, students realize their initial projects; in the second year, they pursue their own ideas with references to famous artworks. The result? Individual pieces that each carry unique atmosphere, voice, and message. IB takes it a step further—more independent, based on analysis, art history, and personal references. And it all culminates in… an exhibition. A real one. With lighting, mood, and emotion!
From Mind Map to Exhibition
What emerges from these art classes Warsaw isn’t just ‘pretty pictures.’ High school students build full portfolios—with concepts, inspirations, analyses, and trials. They learn to tell a story through an image. The final product might be a painting, collage, textile, sculpture, or photograph—art objects that speak about the world, about themselves, about what moves them.
That’s what modern art education looks like in a Warsaw high school.
Art That Speaks
– “Topics,” explains Dominika Sergiej, “range from landscapes and architecture, through fashion, urbex and ecology, to politics. Students’ works showcase maturation, internal transformation, and personal reflection.”
Asked whether she sees changes in students’ self‑expression, openness, or inventiveness over the year, she replies that working on projects teaches young people decision‑making, choosing final compositional and color solutions—which also boosts everyday confidence. “They often have to face failure, accept a mistake, endure the tension of not succeeding—and still keep going. I see their creative power unfolding, independence of thought and resourcefulness growing!” she adds.
In April, we witnessed all this during a school vernissage, turning the lobby and classrooms into a true art gallery. And in May, our students were featured in a post‑residency exhibition in Włocławek!
What Does Art & Design Give?
Even if someone doesn’t plan to pursue higher art education, they gain a lot from these painting course experiences: creativity, decision‑making skills, courage in thinking and acting, resilience in the face of failure. Students learn to finish what they start, trust themselves and their ideas, and follow their intuition.
And for those aiming higher, a high‑school portfolio can be a strong asset for university admissions—both in Poland and abroad.
A Student’s Inner Journey
– “Every project is its own story,” says Dominika Sergiej. “It’s fascinating to witness how students mature—not just artistically, but personally. Sometimes they learn to cope with mistakes; sometimes they discover a completely new language of self‑expression.”
Here are some of our creators: Zuzanna Kozuba, Mikołaj Lewicki, Ignacy Sławiński, Mateusz Jurkiewicz, Shahnaz Tabassum, Tomasz Balawajder, Nina Banaszak, Ksawery Dziaduszyński, Helena Hodgdon, Oliwier Korczyński, Alicja Książczyk, Maksymilian Moczkowski, Andrii Orlovskyi, Zuzanna Puchała, Kiryl Sakalou, Stanisław Tomaszewicz, Filip Trzeciak, Marharyta Varanovich… – they demonstrated that high‑school art education can be a powerful field of expression.
